I’ve been sporting dark hair for almost 6 months already! It’s the longest I’ve lasted without getting frustrated and bored with my look, but I had to keep myself from dyeing my hair while I was in the process of growing it out. Now that it has grown so much longer, I finally decided that it’s time to let the dark hair go!
I originally planned to go lighter in January (in time for New Year), but I’m so done with “normcore” hair! And the last time I had light hair, I still had my bangs/fringe. Thought it would be nice to see how I’d look like with no fringe + my old, signature light-brown hair.
A mix of red, brown, and black – the result of not properly retouching my roots! I dyed my hair dark red-violet some time ago and didn’t have time to go have my roots dyed. Under certain lighting, you can’t really tell that my roots have grown out this much anyway. It only becomes obvious when I take photos under the sun… which doesn’t really happen often!
So I went to my hairstylist Jimmy of Status Salon Tomas Morato to supervise this drastic hair color change! Really love him – one of the best hair colorists around!
My hair was really dark, pre-lightening is a MUST. This is one of the realities of dyeing your hair a really dark, almost-black color. It’s not that easy to take the dark out once it’s there.
It may be similar to your natural hair color, but it’s absolutely far from actual virgin hair. This is why hairstylists always ask you to think twice before going from light to dark. It’s definitely going to take extra time for you to go from dark to light again, and not to mention the quality of your hair… *dead*
After pre-lightening, hello to bright, orange hair! (ew)
Time for the roots!
After the whole pre-lightening process, they washed all the dye out, and blow-dried my hair in preparation for the next step.
The most exciting part – seeing the color of your choice be applied to your hair! Jimmy and I had a long discussion on what color I should choose, since I didn’t want to go ash blonde/brown that’s almost green/grey like before. I wanted something different and more vibrant!
The last step. I spent about 4-5 hours at the salon for this hair color change, lol.
Every minute was worth it though! Thanks to the Status Salon Tomas Morato team for yet another drastic transformation. My hair color is called “light golden ash blonde” aka instant K-pop hair! The ash tinge has faded a bit since this day, so it’s even more vibrant now! Also, yay my tan is back!
Anyhow, this photo of Sica made me want to dye my hair light asap:
