Dedicated to Saint Rupert and Saint Vergilius, the Salzburg Cathedral is a 17th-century Baroque beauty in the middle of Alstadt (Old Town Salzburg). Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized in this cathedral, and he was actually the organist here for about 3 years.
The thing that I liked the most about Salzburg Cathedral is the contrast between the flat, minimalist facade and the ornate Baroque interiors with lots of curved details. (So far, I’ve never been to a cathedral that I didn’t like.)
I can’t be any happier to know that I went to Salzburg at the best possible time. I can’t imagine going to Austria and Germany without the Christmas markets and cute choirs singing Christmas carols in the courtyard!
