They say history tends to repeat itself, and I think this statement holds true in the case of fashion. I read somewhere that trends usually go on a 30-year cycle, and true enough, the ’80s and ’90s have come back rather strong these past couple of years.
I was born in the late ’80s, which means I spent most of my conscious childhood from the ’90s to early ’00s. I still remember the things my mom used to make me wear, and it often involved denim – my own denim, as well as hand-me-downs from my older brothers. Interestingly, they usually came in this particular wash of denim – the flat, vivid blue kind that you can see me wearing in this post.
The moment I saw this jumper on the racks of Forever 21, I was instantly hit with childhood nostalgia. It was only natural for me to pair it with other ’90s trends like mock neck tops, tiny backpacks, and suede shoes. What kind of items do you remember wearing when you were a kid?
Forever 21’s Denim Collection S/S 2016 is truly a walk down memory lane, except the styles are now reworked to fit the modern fashionista. Be prepared to splurge on other familiar ’90s trends like denim jackets, flared pants, tattered jeans, and chambray tops!
