Prom season is here! Most of you may have already found the perfect dress, but I’m sure some of you haven’t quite figured out yet what kind of make-up is best to wear during that once-in-a-lifetime event. I made a tutorial on how to look pretty for prom, using products from SM Makati’s SM Beauty Department. I’ve used the same products in my previous tutorials, and worn the same look in my recent hair tutorial.
It’s been 9 years *gasp* since I attended prom, but this look can also be appropriate for weddings, and other fancy evening occasions. For these kinds of parties, I like to keep it simple yet striking—
The magical before and after pic! Looking pretty for prom need not be super smoky or on the other side of the spectrum, bare. The best way to look your age (if you’re around 16 or 17) is to enhance your features with neutral pinks and browns, shimmer, and thick, youthful eyebrows. You can always opt for a sexy, pin-up look if it goes well with your dress or with your prom’s theme, but there’s a chance you might end up looking much older than you actually are (unless that is the effect that you’re going for).
If you’re the DIY-kind of girl (like me!) who doesn’t plan on hiring a professional make-up artist for prom, here are some easy steps that you can follow to achieve this party-ready look! Just add falsies and contacts after if you feel like going for a heavier eye (which is what I did for the final look).
Step 1: Apply a medium pink-purple or pink-brown shade all over your eyelid.
Here I used BYS’ 01 Neutral Charm palette. 2nd row, 1st color.
Step 2: Using the same palette (1st row, 1st color), apply a slightly darker shadow as close to your eyelid as possible, as if you’re lining your eyes. Apply the same color on your lower lash line.
Step 3: Using the same palette (2nd row, 2nd color), apply a light shimmer on the inner corners of your eyes. Instant brightening effect! This will also balance out the black liquid eyeliner and pencil eyeliner in the next steps.
Step 4: Create a wing with a black liquid eyeliner. Depends on you if you want it angling upwards or downwards. I personally like to wing it downwards because it looks better with my eye shape, though I recommend a classic cat-eye if you want to look more intense.
BYS has a 3 Way Tip Liquid Eyeliner Pen that you can use as a normal eyeliner, and as a lifehack to fake the illusion of thick lower lashes. Just angle the pen differently, and voila!
Step 5: Line the outer half of your lower lashline, and connect it with your winged eyeliner. Blend or smudge accordingly. Doesn’t really matter if it gets a little messy because there’s still mascara!
I used PAC’s Intense Color Eyeshadow Pencil in Glamour Black. Really love this product because you can use it both as an eyeliner and eyeshadow.
Step 6: Finish off the look with black mascara. Don’t forget to apply mascara on your lower lashes too!
Make Up Factory’s Dream Eyes mascara is a must in every girl’s make-up stash! It does such a good job in adding volume and lengthening. I haven’t been wearing falsies recently because of this mascara!
Step 7: Using the Essence Eyebrow Designer Pencil in Brown, outline your eyebrows.
I personally start with the ends, because my natural eyebrows aren’t curved enough to my liking. I use the angle of my eyeliner as a guide, and draw a parallel line to create the shape I want.
Step 8: Continue drawing until you get your desired eyebrow shape.
Step 9: Fill it in with a light hand.
Step 10: The important part – blending. You don’t want to go out with cartoon eyebrows! This eyebrow pencil comes with a brush that you can use to make your eyebrows look more natural. I skipped the eyebrow mascara here because you can’t dye your hair in high school anyway, so I’m assuming most of you have naturally black/dark brown hair. :)
That’s it! Hope this tutorial helps, or at least serves as inspiration for your upcoming prom!
