Kyoto: Yasaka-jinja, Maruyama Koen

Shijo-Kawaramachi as our background!

And it’s a long way forward so trust in me~ I’ll give them shelter, like you’ve done for me~

That moment when you spot Yasaka-jinja in Porter & Madeon’s animated Shelter video! I wonder why they chose to include bits of Kyoto there! I found it quite refreshing given how so many shows are always set in Tokyo.

The last two times I was in Kyoto, I visited Yasaka-jinja at night. I still recommend going there when it’s dark and the lanterns are lit, but the afternoon/sunset view with Shijo-Kawaramachi’s wide road in the background had a nice feel to it too.

I also got to visit Maruyama-koen, the park beside Yasaka-jinja! I swear I’ll never run out of places to go to in Kyoto.
