I always stay at hotels near Myeongdong because I find it the most convenient place to go shopping. Apparently, it’s not just me who thinks so, because over a million people pass by this place every single day.
It also doesn’t hurt that it’s considered as heaven for make-up fans! Each brand has 2-3 stores in this area alone, so you can never escape your fate of entering at least one store, and spending all your money on the best and most affordable Korean cosmetics. A lot of the shop staff in Myeongdong are used to tourists visiting from all over the world, and it’s not surprising that most of them can speak common languages like English, Mandarin, or Nihongo. You can’t really get any better than this!
But what I like most about Myeongdong is how K-stars are literally everywhere…
Kim Soo Hyun
GD (BIGBANG) for The Saem
Taemin (SHINEE) for Etude House
Hongbin (VIXX) for STAFF
EXO for Nature Republic
HyunA (4minute) for a brand I can’t remember
I was able to experience Halloween in Seoul for the first time too, and I must say that while they don’t go all out crazy like the Japanese (Shibuya is still *the* place to be), the Koreans somehow manage to make it look cool and fashionable. I saw a lot of girls in wearable clothes but with fangs and pale vampire make-up.
No crazy zombies scaring people though!
LUSH had a great Halloween gimmick~
The shop staff got all dressed up, hit the streets, and invited passersby to visit their store.
Fashion in Myeongdong = A+
Most of the clothes in this area are really my style. Lots of classic cuts in yummy, sophisticated colors.
My new favorite place in Myeongdong is Lotte Young Plaza! It’s a very hip mall with trendy fashion. If you don’t want to brave the Myeongdong crowd, this is the perfect place for you. I just want to stay here forever!
Getting ready for spring as early as October…?
K-idols love BOY LONDON.
Simplicity is key in Korean fashion. It’s rare for them to excessorize, which is exactly why I relate to their style so much.
White sweaters and slouchy coats <3
19,900 won is only about P800. Y SO CHEAP
And the best place to stock up on everything black and white is…
Whenever they do accessorize, the Koreans prefer dainty details instead of loud, statement accessories. My mom loves big, bohemian-style dangling earrings, but we couldn’t find any in Korea.
Little gold and pearl accessories are their best friends.
F/W 2014 trend = intricate collars! I regret not getting this top :(
CAN I HAVE THIS WHOLE OUTFIT
Plus Minus Zero! Great brand for black, white, and grey clothes.
People go to Lotte Young Plaza for Stylenanda!
BUY ALL THE 3CE. Actually, I had to resist buying because I still have a lot of unopened make-up at home, huhu
Stylenanda’s statement shoes. Chunky platforms as seen on Park Sora.
Martine Sitbon “lonely” shoes! They’re called lonely because you get only 3 pairs in a set! The extra pair doesn’t have a partner, but they’re meant to be mismatched on purpose!
i-D! Classic colorful. So cute how they put witch hats on the mannequins for Halloween.
SM Town Pop Up Store on the G/F is also one of Lotte Young Plaza’s destinations! You can buy limited-edition official merchandise here~ like SNSD-brand perfume, EXO shorts and caps, etc.
TaeTiSeo were promoting during this period, so the store constantly showed Holler on the screen.
If you see this giant Batman dog, don’t get weirded out!
It’s actually guarding an epic store called KM PLAY.
Looks like my future house, lol
KM PLAY is an underground store that sells various Korean brands.
The kind of Korean fashion that you can find in fashion editorials, music videos, events, etc.
The whole store is a sight to behold.
Some of the brands in KM PLAY have the most interesting displays.
ARTBOX! Everyone’s favorite stationery store in Myeongdong. I really wish they can bring this to Manila!
And capsules that you can open to store mini love letters!
MCM Flagship Store in Myeongdong. EXO is the face of MCM now, and I heard the prices of hotels in front of MCM doubled or tripled when EXO appeared during the launch!
No photos inside the store, so here’s an MCM dog~
The first ALAND that I was ever introduced to. My brothers and I discovered this place during our first visit a long time ago, so I was happy to find an ALAND in Hong Kong as well. The ALAND here is a lot more epic though, and ALAND’s men’s fashion even has its own separate building.
K-pop stars modeling sunglasses. NANA’S FACE IS A WORK OF ART AND I WANT IT!
Couple fashion is a huge deal in Korea, and they even style mannequins as if they’re actual couples.
HATS ON! A lot of people asked me on Instagram why I tagged Lay/Yixing on the sleepy-eyed duck cap. If you watched EXO Showtime, you would know~
The crowds are even wilder at night.
My mom and I always go to this beef place in Myeongdong. We discovered it during our last visit, and couldn’t get enough ever since. Can’t remember the name of the restaurant, but it only has a limited menu of about 4 dishes. Worth it! My tummy is satisfied.
Korea just keeps on giving. Even the street food is glorious.
SO RED. Didn’t even dare test the spiciness, lol.
Mom and I went to mass at Myeongdong Cathedral a.k.a. THAT CATHEDRAL THAT ALWAYS APPEARS IN K-DRAMAS! Park Shin Hye lived in a nunnery in “You’re Beautiful”, and they shot a lot of her earlier scenes here.
I’m already dreaming of Myeongdong in spring, huhu. Someone go with me!!! I also want to experience going to a music show like Music Bank, Inkigayo, etc. but I don’t know how, lol. ONE DAY!
